Interested in Selling Digital Products? Here’s What You Need to Know

I’ve gotta be completely honest here for a sec…digital products are not going to make you $10K a month. They are not a one-way to 6-figure land or a get-rich-quick opportunity.

Instead, digital products are a tool that can help you get to those $10K months faster.

And this isn’t just for the benefit of making more money either. The biggest problems most solo entrepreneurs have is not having enough time. But digital products can make money on autopilot, so you aren’t spending every waking hour devoted to client work!

So, if you’re ready to jump on the digital product train, watch the video below or check out the cliff notes in this post!

Solve ONE problem with each digital product

Where do you start with all of this? There are so many ideas for digital products!

The best thing you can do is to think about solving just one problem for one person. Like I always say, if you’re talking to everyone, you’re talking to no one, and that couldn’t be more true for what you’re selling.

Take a look at some of my favorite examples from fellow creators and biz owners! As you go through them, you can start to see what I mean by getting specific.

Finding the right idea for your business

Finding a good digital product idea is a lot easier than you might expect it to be. Think about the things you use all the time in your business. Maybe there’s an Asana or Trello board you use every day to keep all your projects organized. Or a spreadsheet that helps you keep track of your finances.

There are so many things hiding right under your nose that you can easily templatize and turn into income!

But if you’re worried about giving all the good stuff away in a low-ticket offer, don’t be. Look at those examples I gave you above. They’re not selling you an entire email strategy, just newsletter ideas. They’re not creating an entire brand identity for you, just helping you get started with a logo.

ONE problem for ONE person.

How to advertise your digital product

Once you’ve got a good idea down and you’re clear on what you want to offer, you need to price and sell your digital product.

As long as the product is under $97, you don’t really need a full-on sales page like you would for a course or membership. A smaller landing page will do.

Still, your sales pages should show some mockups to help potential customers visualize what they’re purchasing and testimonials if you have any! And of course, don’t forget the selling points that tell people what they’re getting inside and what outcomes they can expect from it.

Delivering your digital product

How you deliver your digital product will depend on what it is. But there are tons of easy, and FREE ways to do it, especially if you’re already subscribed to a service (like Canva or Dubsado) or have a Google Account.

Just make sure that no matter what you choose, customers can’t edit the documents. Keep it in “view-only settings when you share it with them.

Marketing your digital product

Now that you have a better idea of what you’ll be selling, you want to advertise that sucker everywhere! In your newsletters, on Instagram and YouTube, to other parents at the PTO meeting (kidding…but not).

But between focusing on getting all the stuff on your to-do list done and being a functioning human being, it’s easy to forget about promoting yourself. That’s why my team and I like to stick to a monthly marketing calendar to keep us on track. It helps us remember all the where’s and when’s and helps us to continue to generate hype!

Wanna know what that calendar looks like? I’ve turned one of my most successful business tools into a digital product — but you can only get it inside of $10K on Replay!
