A Special Peek Inside My YouTube Coaching Process

This week, I’m going to do something a little different. Instead of a video full of tips and tricks, I decided to share a recording of a strategy session from my recent challenge. What you’ll see is how I help my clients build out a strategy, in real-time. You’ll get a peek at the way my audit works when I review a channel and how I offer advice for them to implement.

In this post, I’ll be giving you a quick rundown of the main points we discussed, but if you want a full look at how it went, be sure to check out the full YouTube video below!

Small tweaks that can be done in a snap

You’d be surprised at how much of a difference adjusting the small things on your channel can make. An adjustment on your homepage here, on your channel banner there, and before long you’ll have a YouTube channel poised to convert!

Your channel banner

The first impression happens fast, and when someone clicks to view your YouTube page, the channel banner is the first thing they’ll see, so make it count. What can you add that will pitch value? What will get them to keep scrolling? Be clear about what you do — it’s like an Instagram bio.

Featured video

No channel trailers, please. People don’t want to watch a commercial about you. They want to know what’s in it for them. They’ll get to know you along the way. I would recommend using the video that has made you the most subscribers.

Thumbnails

The two biggest mistakes I see with thumbnails are people either not spending any time on them at all or overcrowding them with too much information. First of all, your thumbnails are just as important as your video content. You want people to be interested, click, and watch to the end.

Second, you only need 3-5 words, or eyes glaze over and move on (especially on mobile devices because it becomes too crowded and too small). You should also zoom in chest up to show your face and build trust.

Improving your content through data and research

Data will help guide you in the right direction. If you’re ever unsure of what’s doing well and what isn’t, go take a peek at your YouTube analytics dashboard. If something is off, then assess if you’ve been talking to the right people.

Are you talking to your target audience or are you trying to talk to everyone? If it’s the second, the bad news is that you’re too broad to really hit home with anyone in particular, so your content may be losing its value.

If you aren’t sure what your niche is, try conducting a neighbor niche search and do a little research about what others in your industry are doing (don’t COPY, just assess).

Want your own channel audit?

If you’re stuck planning and not sure why your channel isn’t growing, yet you feel like you’ve tried everything, then it may be time to get help! My YouTube strategy sessions are finally open again and we are currently accepting clients for October and November!

In just 60 minutes, we’ll cover (depending on your unique needs):

  • How to improve your current channel

  • How to set up a brand new channel

  • How to optimize your video content

  • What type of video content to create

  • How to get started with the tech you have

  • How to get more views and subscribers on your channel

  • How to title and tag your videos

You can get your channel reviewed exactly like I did in the strategy session video I shared with you today.
